For over 40 years (1961-2002) the Orioles Triple A affiliate was in Rochester, New York. For years the Orioles would travel to Rochester for an exhibition game in the middle of season and 1988 was no different. I haven't been able to find out a whole lot about this year's game other than the fact that the Orioles beat the Red Wings 10-8.
The Orioles relationship with the Red Wings went south in the late 90's when players started objecting to having to play a mid-season exhibition game, especially in 1999 when the Orioles played another mid-season exhibition game against the Cuban National team. Rochester broke off ties with the Orioles by signing a working agreement with the Twins at the end of the 2002 season. The Orioles ended up having a working agreement with the Ottawa Lynx from 2003 to 2006 before signing on with the Norfolk Tides in 2007. Both Rochester and Norfolk are still affiliated with the Twins and Orioles respectively.
