The Orioles were off on this day as they prepared for a three game weekend series in Detroit.  This would be the last scheduled off day for the team this season.

Thursday September 8 - Off Day

The Orioles were off today as they waited for the Toronto Blue Jays to come to town for a week end series.

Thursday September 1 - Off Day

The Orioles were off on Thursday, September 1st.  They spent the day in Seattle preparing for a three game series against the Mariners starting on Friday.

Thursday August 25 - Off Day

The Orioles were off today which gave them a chance to get some rest after playing 21 innings the previous day.  They were preparing to go to the West Coast for a ten day, nine game, three city road trip.  They wouldn't return to Baltimore until Labor Day.

Monday August 8 - Off Day

The Orioles were off today as they prepared for a two city, seven game road trip.  I was on the road today as well, flying from BWI to Boston and then driving up to Westford, Massachusetts for a System Administration class at Masscomp Computers.  I'm a computer programmer and not a system administrator (although I'd be doing some of that on my new project hence the training) but it was good to get an understanding of that side of things.  Plus I got to spend about 10 days including the weekend in Massachusetts where I had a couple friends.  And I would get to a Red Sox game at Fenway.  Of course because I was going to Massachusetts I wasn't able to go to my grandfather's funeral this day in Kansas.

In other baseball news - tonight was to be the night of the first night game in Wrigley Field history.  Wrigley Field was the last major league baseball park without lights.  There was resistance to night baseball from the surrounding neighborhood but pressure from the team and MLB* finally won out and lights were installed during the season.  Tonight's game against the Phillies was the first scheduled night game.  The Cubs were leading 3-1 in the fourth inning when the skies opened up, causing the game to be called following a two hour rain delay.  The first night game in Wrigley FIeld history would end up being the NEXT night when the Cubs beat the Mets 6-4.

*MLB threatened to move any Cubs World Series home games to an alternate site if they didn't add lights - which means that the Cubs could have waited until 2016 before putting in the lights.  (In fairness the Cubs made the playoffs in 1989 and a number of times since then.  They also would not have hosted the All Star Game in 1990 if they had not added lights.)

Monday August 1 - Off Day

The Orioles were off on this day as they prepared for Cleveland to arrive for a three game series.

Thursday July 21 - Off Day

The Orioles had an off day today before heading out on the road for what was officially a two city, six game road trip to Minnesota and Cleveland.  It actually was a three city, seven game road trip as the Birds had an exhibition game in Rochester, home of their Triple A team, sandwiched in between the two three game series.

Monday July 18 - Off Day

The Orioles were off on July 18th before starting a series against the Chicago White Sox.

Wednesday July 13 - Off Day

The Orioles continued to be off as it was the last day of the All Star break.

Monday July 11 - Off Day

Today was the first day of the All Star break so the Orioles like everyone else were off.  Cal Ripken was the sole member of the Birds to make the All Star team so he was in Cincinnati while everyone else got three days off at home.

Normally the day before the All Star game features the Home Run Derby.  The Derby was first held in 1985 in Minnesota and has been held annually ever since with one exception.  That exception was 1988 - rain in Cincinnati forced its cancelation. 

Thursday June 30 - Off Day

The Orioles had June 30th off, their first off day in three weeks.  They would head on the road for a two city six game road trip to Texas and Chicago.

The Orioles ended up going 11-16 for the month of June, a one game improvement over May.  They were outscored by their opponents 141 to 103.

Thursday June 9 - Off Day

The Orioles had an off day on June 9th to lick their wounds after the beating the Tigers had given them the night before.  They would head on the road for the next week with a three game series in New York against the Yankees followed by three games in Detroit.

Thursday June 2 - Off Day

The Orioles returned from their 10 day West Coast road trip and got to enjoy an off day at home before opening a six game home stand against the AL East leading Yankees and the third place Tigers.

Thursday May 26th - Off Day

The Orioles were off on this date while they prepared to open a three game series against the Angels in Anaheim.

Monday May 16th - Off Day

The Orioles were off on Monday, May 16th.  Their next scheduled game was on Tuesday, May 17th at home against the California Angels.

April 25th - Off Day

The Orioles were off on April 25th.  They spent the day in the Minneapolis-St Paul area as they would begin a three game series against the Twins on the 26th.

April 18th - Off Day

The Orioles had the day off on April 18th before embarking on their longest road trip of the season - a 13 day, 12 game, four city trip that would take them to Milwaukee, Kansas City, Minnesota and Chicago.

April 5 - Off Day

The Orioles were off on April 5th but they made two transactions - they released catcher Jamie Nelson and signed free agent catcher Mickey Tettleton and assigned him to their AAA team in Rochester.  Tettleton would become the regular catcher for the big league team later in the season.
